Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the group reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Seekers and Planners tables.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
